Hnefatafl – The Vikings' Strategy Game

A handmade Hnefatafl inspired by the ancient Nordic strategy games from the Viking Age.

The game is made of wood and measures approximately 38 x 38 cm. The board is built with a raised playing surface and has two drawers beneath the board for storing pieces.

The playing board itself is stained in teak, while the base and details are in dark oak with decorative borders painted in gold around the foot. The playing surface is engraved with Hugin and Munin as a subdued motif in the grid, so that the details are visible without drawing attention away from the game itself.

Around the board, runes in younger futhark are engraved, inspired by ancient Nordic inscriptions and expressions related to Odin and protection. The runes are intended as part of the atmosphere and expression of the game, giving the board a distinct character of Nordic craftsmanship and history.

The pieces are decorated with Viking symbols and motifs inspired by the era from which the game originates.
